"Well, well, well, if it isn't Hero Callihan. We were expecting you. I believe you have something that sparks my interest, and I want it."
"Looks like it is your bad day, because you're not getting anything but defeat from me."
"We'll see about that."
and with that, she attacked. I fought my best against her but then again, I wasn't fully trained before they started their attack against Earth. I threw a punch in her stomach, and she groaned in pain. I tripped her using the moment to the advantage. I held her down. "I though you said I was a 'worthy opponent'?" She gritted her teeth and struggled but I only strengthened my grip. "BLANCHE! WAKE UP!" That's weird, what kind of command was that? "WAKE UP! THE SCHOOL BUS IS LEAVING IN A FEW MINUTES!" Oh, no. The light bulb finally turned on in my head. I was dreaming, well of course, I'm not some butt-kicking extraordinaire who was devilishly smart and named Hero Callihan. I was smart, but I was nowhere close as cool as Hero. I urged myself to wake up before mom brought out the ice cold water.
My eyes fluttered open just before the water poured on to my face. I spluttered and rolled of my bed and on to the floor. "Mo-o-o-o-om! I was getting up! You didn't need to bring out the water." I said grumpily. "Well you were asleep for more than 30 minutes after your alarm, that's the deal Blanche." My mom looked at me smugly and walked out of my room. I dried my self as well as possible gulped down a glass or orange juice and gulfed down some scrambled eggs. I grabbed my backpack, put on my shoes and sprinted down to the bus station. To my luck, the bus had already left. Just wonderful, I now had to sprint back home and wait 30 more minutes until mom would be able to drive me to school.
The bell rung in the distance as my mom slowly moved the car forward in the traffic and I groaned. "Just great, the fifth day late in a row. Late for school for a whole week. Great reputation and more days to add on my report card. Yep, real great." I scowled and my mom looked at me using the mirror and rolled her eyes. "Really, Blanche dear, it's not my fault, you should have woken up earlier. Perhaps when your alarm rang?" I scowled again.
"Now class, today we have a new project and it will involve research from the library." The whole class groaned except me, I loved doing research in books. I mean I love technology and all, but I'd rather use books. "Settle down everybody, it's not all that bad. Wait for it, you are doing a book report on your favourite book and author!" Ms. Fairweather sounded really excited for this project. Well, I don't blame her, she spends all her free time in the library. Anyways, we trudged up to the library to choose our books. I wanted to do a Hero Callihan book, maybe Hero Callihan and The Lost Treasure of Orchard Woods. I searched through the 'New Books' section and grabbed my book and set to work on reading it. Livia, my friend, asked me if we could work together on the book, so I said yes and we took turns reading out loud to each other. Livia read the first half of the book and I started to read the second half. I finished soon as possible and got to work with the story. "AAAAAAAAAAAAAAA" screams echoed in the hallway and I raced to see what it was. Some figure in a trench coat was speeding down the hall and another figure was chasing it. The second figure seemed to have combat boots, a short hair bob of brown hair and a leather jacket. It occurred to me that the second figure had a weird resemblance to Hero Callihan and then it hit me, it was just like in Hero Callihan and The Enchantress of Isla, I had read the characters right out of a story and into real life. I know, I know, I sound really gullible but I'm sure. Unless you know some person ridiculous enough to actually break rules at my school. Of course, knowing what happens in the book and leaping at the chance to meet, I sprinted down the halls taking my chances of breaking school rules.
I skid down the hall and turned left just to see Hero in hot pursuit of The Masked Master. I ran down the other hallway and made a quick right just in time to corner The Masked Master. I leapt at him knowing that he was vulnerable from behind. I knocked down The Masked Master and held him in a headlock until I awkwardly looked at Hero, but she looked at me as if I was the hero. "Well, well, looks like we got a JR. cadet here don't we?" I blushed and beamed with pride. "Oh it was nothing, the least I could do." I said. "Say, do you know where I am?" Hero asked. I thought of what I was supposed to say to her, I couldn't explain to her the whole concept of she's a book character and I read her out. I would just tell her she was in Vancouver, British Columbia, where we actually were.
"We're in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada."
"Thanks cadet, I'll see you soon I hope!"
"Y-y-yeah I hope!" I stammered. I was so-o-o-o-o embarrassed. But Hero Callihan was talking to me! Blanche Carson! The next thing I knew, Hero was gone and I was alone in the halls and even The Masked Master was gone.
I excitedly snuck back into the library like nothing was wrong and told Livia what happened. We grabbed Hero Callihan and The Dice of Doom and started to read aloud...
