BFG in Toronto

One summer night in Toronto, there was a little girl named Cathy. She was only 5 years old. It was midnight in Toronto and Cathy couldn’t sleep because of all the “monsters” under her bed. This usually happened every night, but that night she had stayed up longer than any other night. The whole city was asleep and it was so dark that there was no light except for the streetlights. Suddenly her house started shaking lightly. Cathy looked out her bedroom window and she could make out a dark shadow walking toward her house. She looked closer and she saw a giant that was about 24 foot tall (she was quite smart for a five year old). Suddenly the giant shoved in an enormous trumpet right through her bedroom window which made Cathy jump very high. After a few minutes the giant (and his trumpet) left. She leapt as soon as the giant left and saw that the giant also had some jars full of little floating blobs. The giant suddenly turned around and Cathy jumped back but the giant had already seen her. The giant leapt back to her house and stuck one of his hands through her window. Cathy tried to get out of her room but the giant’s hand was blocking the door. After a few minutes of trying to run away from the giant’s hand, she gave up. “I might as well get eaten than running around my room” she thought. When she got picked up and out the window, she saw that the giant looked very friendly. It had bigger ears than its head and had a very friendly smile. “Hullo, What are you doing up out of your bed at this time of the night?” the giant asked Cathy.  She tried to think of something fast but instead she blurted out the whole truth “I couldn’t sleep because of the monsters under my bed, but who are you and what are you doing here at midnight? Oh, and what is your name?” she exclaimed fastly. “I’m collecting dreams and my name is George oh o-oh that’s not my name it’s Leo no no no no no it’s Benjamin!” “Oh! It’s hopeless I’ll never remember my name, but you can just call me BFG which stands for Big Friendly Giant”. The BFG asked if Cathy wanted to come with him. She replied “Yes” happily and checked her clock which read 03:00 just before she leaped on to the BFG’s shoulder. The BFG started walking toward the horizon with Cathy on his shoulder and his trumpet and jars in one big suitcase. “Where are we going” she asked, only to be replied “You’ll see, you’ll see”. After some while Cathy fell asleep, when she woke up the sun was in the horizon and there were lots of big boulders. When they were closer she saw it wasn’t boulders but HUMONGOUS GIANTS! They sneaked past the giants (which were a LOT bigger than the BFG was) and came to a house the size of two 10 story buildings. Cathy finally asked (again) where they were the BFG replied “We’re in GIANTLAND where ALL the giants live.” Cathy was amazed that there was even such a thing. Inside there was shelves and shelves of jars that had floating blobs.  She had so many questions in her head that she wanted to ask, but she only asked 2.” What are those jars full of floating blobs? Oh, oh, oh and what type of giant are there?” she asked, “Wellll, those floating blobs in the jars are dreams that I collect every night. There’s dream catching giants that’s me!, leaping giants, gymnastic giants, business giants, teacher giants. Oh! And did I mention baby giants? There’s a lot more to name but it would take daaays to finish the list, any way what’s your name?” the BFG asked. “My name is Cathy, Cathy Brooks. “ Nice to meet you Cathy, now let’s get on with business and have you had anything to eat Cathy?”
“No”
“Do you want anything to eat?”
“Oh yes please!”
“Do you want FizzPop and some CumberCuc?”
“Pardon me for asking but… what are FizzPop and CumberCuc?”
“Why they are only the best food in the world!. They look like this” the BFG replied, bringing out two weird and delicious looking things. One looked like a zucchini (CumberCuc) and the other looked like a bottle of soda (FizzPop). Suddenly a giant burst open the door and shouted “I SMELL CHILDREN!”. While that had happened Cathy had hid inside half of a CumberCuc seed and froze. She had noticed that the giant was WAY bigger than the BFG. The 2 giants had a little talk and soon the bigger giant left thundering away. The BFG closed the door and called for Cathy, she quickly got out from under the seed. “I have to bring you home tomorrow. It’s too dangerous for you to stay here.”Cathy wondered why she had to leave, she had just arrived. So she asked the BFG why she had to leave. The BFG answered” I forgot to tell you about one type of giant, The CHILD-EATING GIANT! So the next morning (very early) they left. When they finally got to Cathy’s house it was still dark and her clock said 03:00. No time had passed at ALL! Suddenly the ground started shaking and there was a dark figure coming toward her street. The BFG recognized the dark shadow very quickly, a child-eating giant! He told Cathy to hide under her bed and only come out if he heard the word chocolate. It took a few minutes for the giant to leave, but it was worth it. Suddenly Cathy had an idea. Her plan was to get to the mayor so she could convince him that there was giants so he could get some builders to operate some excavators and dig a hole so all the giants would fall and get buried. She told the BFG her plan and he agreed and the only giant that wouldn’t be buried would be the BFG. When they finally got to the mayor’s house the BFG lead Cathy to the window of the house where they found the mayor sleeping with an open window. She climbed in through the window to the mayor’s bed and shook him. The mayor was so shocked that he woke up in an instance, which made Cathy jump very high. Finally when she got some sense into the mayor she told the mayor about everything. Cathy knew that the mayor wasn’t going to believe her so she showed the mayor the BFG. It took them a few times to for the mayor to get everything right, after that her plan fell right in place. At 05:00 the hole was finished. The BFG told the people that this was when the giants had their breakfast. Everyone except for the people in the excavators hid. After what seemed like a long time every giant was buried (except for the BFG of course). The BFG and Cathy went straight to Cathy’s house and it was time to say goodbye to each other. The BFG promised to visit her soon. Then the BFG left off to GiantLand.

EPILOGUE
“Cathy!” Her mother called. “Cathy?” her mom called again when she got to her room. But Cathy was sound asleep in her bed.
